Carle Health events provide hundreds of free cancer screenings and mammograms in 2024
We're committed to constantly improving care. The Carle Cancer Registry collects detailed information about patients with cancer and the treatments they receive to help accomplish this.
Service Overview
A cancer registry collects detailed information about patients with cancer and the treatments they receive, then compiles it in a database. Cancer Tumor Registrars (CTRs) abstract and transmit the information to the Illinois Central Registry on a monthly basis. This is how the state gets its statistics for different types of cancers.
This data helps identify groups that are at higher risk for certain types of cancer and geographic regions where cancers are being found at later stages. State and national organizations then work to determine the causes so they can try to fix the problem.
The Carle Cancer Registry was established in 1934 and is one of the oldest registries in the state of Illinois. Our staff includes four certified CTR’s, a quality coordinator and a follow-up secretary.
We host four quarterly Administrative Cancer Committee meetings following the requirements of the Commission on Cancer standards. The Chairman of the Cancer Committee is James Egner, MD and the Physician Liaison is Vamsi Vasireddy, MD. Our team sets goals, monitors program activities, evaluates patient outcomes and works to improve care for our patients.
With doctors practicing in 80 specialties at locations throughout the region, it’s easy to find the right healthcare team at Carle. Our mission is to serve people through high quality care, medical research and education.
