Faith Community Health connects you and your faith community to needed healthcare and wellness support, taking a whole-person approach to health.

Community Health Initiatives

Community Health Initiatives was developed to work closely with many community cross-sector partners and community members to build an infrastructure and culture of community health, ensuring children and their families, regardless of life circumstances, have an opportunity to be prosperous and live the healthiest life they can.

VOLUNTEER VISIT INSTITUTE

Access to Healthcare

This program gives your faith community access to education, screenings and other healthcare resources. We work with your health ministry to actively promote overall health, wellness, and prevention within your faith community.

Faith Community Health connects your faith community to provide:


Health advocacy, including help navigating the complex healthcare system, informal referrals to community resources and health counseling.
  • A service that partners with you to supplement, expand, or begin health ministry programs that are unique to you and your faith community.

Faith Community Nursing

Faith community nurses' goal is to help empower communities, foster an environment of understanding, collaborate with faith leaders and involve you, your family and your congregation as active partners in a healthy community. Established in 1997 by Carle, the program has trained over 500 nurses who've found joy in serving their congregations.

Faith community nurses work to:

  • Support educational programs such as health screenings, illness prevention and wellness promotion.
  • Provide individual health counseling services in the home, assisted living or long-term care facility.
  • Help congregation members navigate healthcare systems.
  • Connect people with healthcare resources, community organizations and other supportive programs.
  • Assist with advance care planning conversations and other healthcare decision making.

Faith Communities
We encourage religious organizations of any faith to participate in the program. Once a registered nurse in your community has trained for this specialty, you’ll gain a healthcare educator, advocate and counselor.
