Fast, personal access to healthcare records helps you thrive

Fast, personal access to healthcare records helps you thrive

Got a case of the Mondays? Mondays are traditionally the busiest for our Patient Contact Center. Skip the wait by exploring the many ways MyCarle can meet your needs.

MyCarle helps you keep track of prescriptions, test results, appointments and more. Now with expanded features, patients have more access to information and tools to live healthier lives and act on treatment plans.

“Having a secure way to message with specialists has been helpful when I have a follow-up question on care instructions,” said MyCarle user Chaya Sandler of Champaign.

With the most recent upgrade and new features now available, monthly informational meetings at The Forum at Carle allow MyCarle experts to walk people through the basic functions of an electronic medical record and answer their questions. One new feature, Open Notes, summarizes exactly what’s discussed during your appointment.

“It’s sort of a transcript of your visit, including what I observed, shared and recommend for follow up,” said Stefanie Schroeder, DO, pediatrician at Champaign on Curtis. “It helps busy patients – and their caregivers –act on my guidance and actively participate in being healthier and get better faster.”

The newest MyCarle tool addresses advanced directives, which help you prepare for the unexpected. Advanced directives are standardized documents about your end-of-of life wishes uploaded to your MyCarle record to provide guidance to care teams and family.

“It’s best to make these decisions while you’re young and healthy. It takes time to discuss in a meaningful way,” said Aimee Yu-Ballard, MD, Geriatric Medicine.

With the help of your primary care physician, a conversation today can save precious moments down the road.

Dr. Ballard encourages sharing your advanced directives with your family and your healthcare provider and to review and revise it periodically, such as when there is a new diagnosis or a major change in your health status.

“We plan to achieve our career goals, build our retirement savings – even vacations. Why not include healthcare? Discussing current and future medical situations helps define your boundaries – what steps you do or don’t want to be taken,” Dr. Yu-Ballard said.

You can still refill prescriptions, schedule a visit, see test results, get health reminders and ask a nurse or doctor a question about your health on MyCarle.

“It is very helpful to have test results electronically because I can review them when I have time, and I’m not worried about missing a call or making another appointment to receive the results,” said Sandler. “Being able to check in the evening before a scheduled appointment also makes me feel like I am in control of my data.”

Online scheduling remains a popular feature because you can access it 24/7 access, helpful for those who remember a need after hours or while at work.

“At 10 a.m., I logged on and found an appointment at 1 p.m.,” said Angela Milano-Petersen of Champaign. “Sure, I still had to wait a few hours, but instead of sitting in the waiting room with my sick kiddo, he could rest at home. When we arrived, they called us right back. It was magical.”
