Stop putting it off, connect with healthcare resources at Carle Health this Men’s Health Month
June is Men’s Health Month and a time to find men’s health support throughout the Carle Health system to address the conditions impacting adult men throughout central Illinois.

Carle Health is your partner in staying healthy, keeping you in the driver’s seat for your healthcare decisions. Men’s Health specialists provide comprehensive care and treatment for men of all ages, including routine and annual care, cancer prevention and care, urological care, and the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of injuries.

Urology
Urology services at Carle Health provide comprehensive care for the entire spectrum of genitourinary disorders. Our urology team works with doctors with advanced training in pediatric urology, urologic oncology and reconstructive surgery. We treat all types of conditions affecting the urinary tract, including prostate, testicular, bladder and kidney cancer, enlarged prostate, kidney stones and sexual dysfunction.

“Whether they’re local to our area and seeing myself or seeing someone local to their area, I think there are definitely people… that are specialists in these things,” Vikas Desai, MD, Urology, Carle Foundation Hospital, said. “That really focus in on those conditions. And so, for myself, really focusing in on the male sexual health piece is a big part of my practice here at Carle.”

Aquablation® Therapy
Aquablation® Therapy is an advanced, minimally invasive treatment for patients with lower urinary tract symptoms including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It uses a heat-free waterjet that clears away excess prostate tissue while minimizing any damage to surrounding tissue. This procedure uses real-time image guidance and automated robotic execution for precise therapy.

Carle BroMenn Medical Center is currently the only facility performing Aquablation® Therapy in downstate Illinois. Dr. Vicken Chalian performs this procedure at Carle BroMenn.

Digestive Health
Our team of specialists is dedicated to taking care of each patient from the diagnosis stages through the therapy and treatment of a range of digestive health disorders.

When colorectal cancer is found at an early stage before it has spread, the five-year relative survival rate is about 90 percent. Several tests can be used to screen for colorectal cancer, including:

Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure completed in a hospital or clinic location. This type of screening looks at the inside of the colon and rectum for any abnormal areas that might be cancer or polyps. This procedure is considered the gold standard of diagnostic care because these polyps can be identified and removed in a single procedure before they become cancerous. Screening typically begins at age 45.

Cologuard®
Cologuard® is a noninvasive screening method that tests both DNA changes and blood in the stool, it is effective in finding both pre-cancer and cancer. Cologuard® is prescribed through your healthcare provider and cannot be purchased over the counter.

The most important thing is to get screened, no matter which test you choose.

Orthopedics
Carle Health offers comprehensive care through the collaboration of our physicians, therapists and advanced practice providers. We use state-of-the-art techniques to reduce recovery times and get you back to living your life. With specialists in joint reconstructionfoot and ankle caresports medicine, trauma and more, our team can offer a wide range of orthopedic services.

No matter what your need is or where you are, Carle Health will connect you to ongoing support and local resources to take charge of your health and care journey.

“The beauty is that we live in an area where there’s so much interconnection where Carle has made a huge presence in terms of primary care settings in all of central Illinois,” Dr. Desai said.
