Through Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute, Carle investigators are leading research with collaboration. By asking important clinical questions, our researchers seek valuable partnerships to better understand the underlying science behind specific issues. These questions spark valuable partnerships, igniting new ways of thinking and finding meaningful solutions through new technologies.
Reducing the barriers between traditional scientific and technological disciplines allows our medical staff to collaborate with scientists in the search for breakthrough discoveries to improve healthcare.
We’re proud of our partners and invite you to learn more about
how our high-value partnerships benefit our community and beyond.
University of Illinois
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is an original land-grant university founded in 1867. It continues a tradition of excellence and innovation in its missions: education, research and public engagement.
As one of a few facilities in the country with a 7 Tesla MRI scanner designed for both clinical and research use, the Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute at Carle has expanded research collaboration with the University of Illinois to form the Carle Illinois Advanced Imaging Center. This partnership elevates the quality of care by offering this innovative technology to patients.
Beckman Institute
For over 30 years, Carle has partnered with the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois to harness the full potential of our combined research capabilities. Working together, our organizations conduct research this is at the frontiers of modern science, bringing together clinicians and scientists to encourage tomorrow's discoveries, today.
Postdoctoral Fellows Program
Since 2008, the Carle Foundation Hospital-Beckman Institute Postdoctoral Fellows Program has sought to recruit outstanding scientists to work on translational biomedical research. One or two Carle Foundation Hospital-Beckman Institute Postdoctoral Fellows are selected approximately every three years.
Cancer Center at Illinois
Carle Foundation Hospital and the Mills Breast Cancer Institute at Carle Cancer Institute welcomes the Cancer Center at Illinois to the Biomedical Research Center. This collaboration realizes a long-standing dream presented at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mills Breast Cancer Institute when Patricia Johnson, MD, PhD, Carle Clinic oncologist stated, “We’re building a place where physicians and other providers can further collaborate to give care. With medical doctors and researchers working under one roof, the patients will get what they need. We can all benefit by being in one building and providing the team approach for each patient.”
Siebel Center for Design
Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute has partnered with the University of Illinois Siebel Center for Design, which specializes in using design thinking as an approach to promote human-centered design, to better understand the needs of elderly and rural patients. Through this collaborative study, Carle hopes to use these insights to inspire innovation and deliver meaningful care solutions.
Carle Illinois College of Medicine
The Carle Illinois College of Medicine (Carle Illinois) is a partnership between the Carle health system (an Urbana-based system of hospitals and physician groups) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (one of the country’s top public research universities). Together, this partnership introduces engineers to patient care, setting the model of excellence and disruptive innovation that the healthcare industry needs today while fostering the development of meaningful research ideas.
More about Carle IllinoisThrough our valuable partnerships, Carle and the Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute are able to offer patients unique access to clinical research and valuable programs that offer real-world solutions.
Carle has been selected as one of only 34 U.S. healthcare providers to receive the designation as a National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). As an NCORP member, Carle oncologists join a national network of researchers dedicated to conducting high-quality, state-of-the-art clinical studies in local community settings. This affiliation gives our patients access to nationwide studies while staying close to family, friends, support systems and local doctors.
Community Health Initiative: Healthy Beginnings
For decades, our Community Health Initiatives have provided a safety net for people who experience inconsistent access to healthcare and services. As the initiatives continue to expand, programs like Healthy Beginnings go one step further and meet people in need close to home. To assist in measuring the success and impact of this program, researchers at Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute offer data collection services to this initiative.
