Guided by a long‑term vision for Carle Health Pekin Hospital, Carle Health is investing in improvements that strengthen access, safety, and efficiency across the campus and the Greater Peoria Service Area. These investments honor Carle Health Pekin’s longstanding role in the community while ensuring the hospital remains a trusted source of high‑quality, compassionate care well into the future.
Carle Health Pekin Hospital has always been reliable and built around local care; this investment ensures we maintain that commitment to care while reinforcing the modern adjustments needed to sustain services into the future. The $8M project will retire aging, unused hospital spaces and facilitate essential, patient‑focused improvements—including a new café, upgraded infrastructure, green space enhancements and safer, more reliable access throughout the hospital.
“This project is more than construction—it’s a commitment to the Pekin community,” Tony Howard, Carle Health Pekin Hospital administrator and Carle Health vice president of support services said. “Carle Health is dedicated to honoring our Pekin legacy and traditions through this modernization and make the updates necessary to provide exceptional care for every community member in need for future generations.”
The initial phase of the project is underway with the relocation of the few services that remained in the hospital South Towers. These towers will be demolished as the construction of the new café progresses, which should complete mid year. Infrastructure updates and external beautification efforts will complete the same time the following year.

Areas like the café and updated greenspace were specifically designed to be gathering places for the community and inspire healing,” Nick Crompton, Carle Health vice president of Construction and Facilities Services said. “Equally as important is the work happening behind the scenes to make necessary upgrades that strengthen the foundation our care depends on.”
