Carle Health receives approval of a development agreement with Deneen Family and City of Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Carle Health is executing on a long-term strategy to invest in the Bloomington-Normal area and expand access to high-quality healthcare services, creating care spaces with community impact. The Bloomington City Council has approved a development agreement between Carle Health, the Deneen Family and the City of Bloomington.  This development will make way for a new, mixed-use project that extends the care continuum for patients and enhances the retail and commercial amenities of the area.

The agreement memorializes the commitment from all three parties for the development of 35.5 acres of land adjacent to the Carle BroMenn Outpatient Center on Bloomington’s east side. The Deneen Family, the city and Carle Health are working closely to expand on the location’s community wellbeing and beautification opportunities. With plans to bring community partners that will complement the development currently in the area, the health system is focused on collaboration to ensure efforts foster better health outcomes and a stronger, more vibrant community.

“This project allows Carle Health to thoughtfully plan for future facilities and services that best meet the evolving needs of the community,” Robert Cavagnol, MD, Carle BroMenn Medical Center and Carle Eureka Hospital president said. “We are excited to partner with the City of Bloomington and the Deneen family to offer the community more moments of connection and strengthen the medical services already in place to create a fully community-integrated wellness experience for the enrichment of the broader community.”

Part of the agreement reached with Deneen Family and the City of Bloomington guides the use of the land and maintenance responsibilities and includes a thoughtful approach to continued growth.

“As Bloomington continues to grow, we are fortunate to see healthcare and community well-being at the forefront of our development efforts. This project will create a lasting impact for generations to come,” stated Jeff Jurgens, Bloomington city manager. "As Mayor, I am proud to see this exciting development unfold,” said Mayor Dan Brady. “This collaboration will strengthen our community’s healthcare," he added.

Carle Health has developed similar mixed-used spaces that merge community connectivity and clinical care in other parts of the health system.

“The Deneen family has deep roots in the city of Bloomington, and we are pleased to be working with Carle Health and the city of Bloomington on this project,” Matt Deneen said on behalf of the Deneen family. “Carle is a recognized leader for healthcare in central Illinois and the plan that Carle Health brings for the property fits well with our vision for the remaining area to be a positive addition to the community.”

Future partnerships have the potential to bring new amenities, resources and shared spaces to the east Bloomington location that connect with the larger clinical campus, which includes Carle BroMenn Outpatient Center, Carle McLean County Orthopedics and the Carle Health & Fitness Center.

The land purchase is the first step in a process that will be a multi-year build of the area. The community will continue to receive updates as the project moves forward and this investment begins to benefit area residents for years to come.
