Carle will open a solely-owned pharmacy store in the space that was once a Walgreens retail pharmacy at the Carle Champaign on Curtis clinic. CarleRx - the new, locally-owned option - will offer extended hours and improved experience for patients and community members. The healthcare system celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 14 where members of the pharmacy team, Carle leaders and community stakeholders came together. The location will open for the public Sept. 20.
“At the heart of this decision is the hope to make it easier for regional patients and community members to secure the prescriptions they need to stay well, even if they get sick at an inconvenient time,” Linda Fred, vice president of Pharmacy said. “The new CarleRx location will ensure greater options for the community, something our internal data shows is a real need.”
The pharmacy extends the already robust, vertically integrated healthcare system Carle Health offers to patients and community members throughout its service areas. Hours of operation include Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. – midnight; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. – midnight. The location also includes a drive-thru option.
Carle patients will enjoy a seamless care experience when completing their pharmaceutical needs through
CarleRx, and community members who are not Carle patients are welcome to utilize the extended hours of operations to obtain medication and other supplies when needed most.
“The team is so excited to get started. We know there were instances where people had to drive hours to get a prescription filled quickly during off hours, we are so excited to alleviate some of that strain on families with CarleRx,” Fred said.
For the past several months there has been a national and local interruption in pharmacy services, the new CarleRx location offers a fully-committed team and will employ 6 pharmacists and 11 pharmacy technicians. The location will open for the public Sept. 20 and stock a wide selection of over-the-counter products for the common cold, allergies, digestive health, pain and other ailments and will have the option to special order over-the-counter products not carried in the store.
