For Lawanna Williams, working in Environmental Services at Carle Foundation Hospital is like taking care of family.
From cleaning the elevators to the patient rooms to the operating rooms, employees who work in housekeeping ensure areas are clean and safe as people move throughout the building 24 hours a day.
“I find it rewarding. I look at it as if I was caring for a place where one of my family members was staying,” Williams said. She started working at the hospital nine years ago because her sister was working in the same department and now she is a coordinator who oversees others, helps with scheduling employees and helps those employees have the tools they need to do the work.
“It’s very important we are responsible for making sure everything is disinfected for the patients, the staff and ourselves. We hold people to a certain standard,” she said.
Immediate openings are available and same-day offers will be made to qualified individuals during a Housekeeping (EVS) Job Fair from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 3 at Carle Foundation Hospital. Carle team members will be in the Heart and Vascular Institute parking lot, located at the corner of Church Street and Busey Avenue, just west of the hospital.
Tressa Mikalauski is a tech in EVS who ensures a sterile and safe place for patients before they arrive and after they leave the hospital.
“My job impacts patient care because I can provide a clean and safe patient experience environment. I make sure everything is done to the highest standard, knowing the next person in the same room or workspace will be safe,” she said.
Employees come to work each day prepared to adapt to their responsibilities and they understand others are relying on them to do extraordinary work that provides an all-important backdrop for patient care.
“It’s a great place to work,” Williams said. “Some days are challenging, but I enjoy being part of a team where members respect one another.”
